Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami

Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami studied filmmaking (BA) and animation (MA) at Tehran Art University. Her research on animated documentary resulted in a book, Animated Documentary: A New Way to Express. Her documentary Sonita won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2016.

Rokhsareh's main focus in her documentaries is people who live at the margin of society. She is interested in trying hybrid forms and pushing the boundaries of conventional documentary. Outsider art, drama therapy and experimental animation are her other interests.

Rokhsareh has been a jury member at festivals such as Hot Docs (Toronto), IDFA (Amsterdam), the One World Human Rights Festival (Prague) and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival (France).
